Web site information and acknowledgements

The purpose of the Asiatic Lion Information Centre is to serve as a central point on the Internet for information about Asian lions. Here you will find historical information about the Asian lion, a species account, range maps, and information about the conservation programmes being undertaken to secure the survival of this species of big cat.

One of the main conservation programmes is the EEP captive breeding programme. This site contains information about all of the zoos participating in the EEP and information about all of the animals in this programme.

If you have any information that you think would be of value to this site or about Asiatic lion conservation please get in touch, either by email or at the postal address located at the bottom of the page.

If you have any queries regarding the information contained here, or about Asian lions in general, again please feel free to get in touch either by email or at the postal address located at the bottom of the page.

Update policy:
The Asiatic Lion Information Centre web site is updated on an occasional basis as there are developments in the EEP or there is other news to report. Also the gallery images are added to as I get new photographs. If you would like to be notified of updates to this site please use the button to send an email to me with the subject heading - ALIC update list.

Note: this is not an Internet mailing list and no information will be held on any web server.

Site Credits:
The Asiatic Lion Information Centre is maintained by Nigel Hodgetts. However, it would not have been possible without the much appreciated, and continuing help of the following people and organisations:

Douglas M Richardson: Director; Rome Zoo
Who provided much of the source material for this web site and helped make it more than a collection of photographs of lions.

Sarah Christie: previously EEP co-ordinator for Asian lions; Zoological Society of London
Who provided up-to-date information on the breeding programme.

Peter Jackson: Chair, IUCN Cat Specialist Group
Who gave permission to include data and illustrations from the book - "Wild Cats - Status Survey and Conservation Action Plan".

Thanks go to keeping and administration staff at all of the UK zoos participating in the European Asiatic Lion Breeding Programme, who have provided much useful information and help in studying the captive population, especially:

Sally Davies and Lesley Lewis at Dudley Zoo.

Jason Knight at Paignton Zoo.

Ray Charter at London Zoo.

John Partridge and Mike Weston at Bristol Zoo.
